Shipping policy

DRAFT NOTE FOR CHANI. Delete this box before the store opens.

Everything on this page comes from your own answers about how you pack and ship. The lines in square brackets are our assumptions, and we need a yes or no on each one.

Where we ship

We ship anywhere in the United States. We do not ship outside the country right now.

[Assumption: US only is on purpose. A customer in Canada currently sees no shipping options at all at checkout. Tell us if you want that opened up.]

Pickup and local delivery around San Diego run through our other ordering page at order.chanisdonuts.com. This store is mail order.

How your donuts travel

We pack your donuts the same day we make them. They go into a bag that is heat sealed with oxygen absorbers, and they ship at room temperature by USPS Priority Mail. Most boxes arrive in about three days.

Room temperature shipping keeps your cost down and wastes far less than packing a box with ice. We do not ship with cold packs or dry ice.

[Assumption: no cold packs, ever, including in July. Confirm.]

When we ship

Monday through Friday. Order after 12pm PST on a Friday and your box goes out the following Monday, so your donuts are not sitting in a mail truck over the weekend.

What shipping costs

Standard $6.95
Two-day $12.95
Standard on orders over $50 Free

Tracking

We email you a tracking number as soon as your box ships. Keep an eye on it, especially if nobody is home during the day.

Eating them, and freezing them

There is a freeze-by date printed on the bag. Eat your donuts within 10 days of packing, or put them in the freezer by that date. A few minutes in an air fryer or a hot oven brings them right back, crispy outside and fluffy inside.

If your address is wrong

Please check your address carefully at checkout. Once a box is in the mail we cannot redirect it. USPS either returns it to us or charges a fee to reroute it, and either way your donuts spend extra days in transit.

If a box comes back to us, email hello@chanisdonuts.com with the correct address and we will send it out again.

[Open question: who pays for that second shipment, you or the customer? The page does not say yet, and it should.]

If your address changes after you order, call (858) 384-6201 right away. If we have not printed the label yet, we can fix it at no cost to you.

If the carrier runs late

Once USPS has your box, the timing belongs to them. Priority Mail is usually three days. Weather, holidays, and busy stretches can add to that. We watch tracking from our end and we will help you chase a package that has stopped moving.

A late box is usually still good, because the bag is sealed with oxygen absorbers and there is a freeze-by date on it. If your box arrives much later than it should have and the donuts are not right, our refund policy covers what happens next.

Hot weather

Our donuts travel well at room temperature. A sealed box sitting in a metal mailbox or on a sunny porch through a July afternoon is harder on them.

When it is hot where you are:

  • Ship to an address where somebody can bring the box inside the same day. A work address often beats a home address.
  • Consider two-day shipping in the summer months.
  • Bring the box in as soon as it arrives, and freeze whatever you are not eating in the next few days.

[Assumption: we do not pause shipping to hot states in summer, and we do not put a heat warning at checkout. Tell us if you want either one.]
